This Palace was built, starting from 1498, for Giovanni II Bentivoglio's will, who entrusted the architect G. Nadi to make the project. Of that age the capitals in sandstone of the loggia at the ground floor are left. The Palace passed to the Marsiglis and then it became the seat of the "Community" of San Giovanni in Persiceto that widened it (XVII century). In it the picture showing "San Giovanni Battista" (by F. Raibolini named "il Francia") is kept. The Theatre, inside the above mentioned Palace, is a small jewel of the eighteenth century, made by G. Tubertini.
Even if it now lies in ruins, it still has a beautiful portal with renaissance earthen decorations. The original door, a cross and a painting are preserved.
It is the oldest civil building in the city. Known also with the name of the "Abbot's house", it was probably the seat for the collection of the tithes which were paid from the local communities to the abbey of Nonantola.
The convent, built in XIII century, was redecorated in the XV and in the XVIII century. After its closing it became a communal property. The inside room has an interesting wooden ceiling. There is also a beautiful cloister with arcades built by the end of the XV century. A wall painting showing the Last supper, has been found on the wall at the end of the ex-refectory. The church, from time deconsecreted, was begun during 1742 on the design of A. Torreggiani, but the works were suspended in 1773 without finishing the apse zone.
It was probably raised at the beginning of the XIV century for sighting and defence. It was lowered many times due to war and natural causes. The dome dates back to the XVII century.
It was built, on the project of P. Canali, between 1671 and 1698, on the area lying behind the demolished Romanesque parish church. The interior, decorated with stuccoes of the XVII century made by the Borelli brothers, keeps important paintings as "St Anthony from Padua" by Guercino (first altar on the left), "Virgin with St Anna and St Gioacchino by U. Gandolfi (second altar on the left), "Decollation of St John the Baptist" by A. Guardassoni (apse), and "Virgin with the Child, St Sebastian and St Rocco" by F. Albani (on the right of the major altar). The front, planned by L. Gamberini and L. Marconi, is adorned with terracotta statues by B. Bernardi (1838).
Built as hospital in 1737, on G. Civoli's project, it rises on the site of the old medieval fortress. In this building there is now the G. C. Croce library, the Communal Archives and the "Civic Picture gallery".
The church, that was once the seat of the homonymous religions brother hood, is said to have been built in 1574, but it was restructured in the middle of the 18th century by A. Torreggiani. The Ss Sacrament's oratory behind, with a precious wooden choir, dates back to the same time.
Built in 1830, as a prison, on the place of one of the two urban gates, it has kept this use till a few decennia ago.
The gate, built in 1781, assumed its modern name in the 19th century, when a memorial plaque in honour of Vittorio Emanuele II king of Italy was placed there.
